MOTHMAN CONTACT AT TREMPEALEAU MOUNTAIN, WISCONSIN 1975

AUGUST 2010: First I must explain that the whole terrifying experience had been suppressed from my memory for over 30 years. I just plain did not remember any of it. I truly believe that my mind could not accept what I had actually seen. My memory was awakened by a television program called “Monster Quest.” The program was about Mothman sightings in the United States. It took several months before all the awful events of that night in June 1975 had filtered through my memory. The following is a full and true account of the experience as I remember it.

I had been out walking along the railroad tracks that ran along the Mississippi River near Trempealeau Mountain. My car was parked nearby, and I was returning to it. It was dusk and the sun had already set over the Minnesota bluffs across the river. The air was hot and sultry and I could still see pretty well yet. As I walked along, I heard a loud flap, flap, flap coming from somewhere up on the mountain. It was a very unusual sound, and since I had nothing better to do, I decided to investigate. Climbing up the mountain became very difficult after it became dark, and it took me over an hour before I arrived at the top. At last I came to a small clearing in the trees and brush. By this time the full moon had risen, and I could see very well.

I saw a large nest in the middle of the clearing with what looked like four or five moth-like baby birds in it. But the most amazing thing was the very large moth-like creature who was flapping his wings. The sound of his flapping had covered my approach, and he did not see me hidden in the bushes nearby. I think he was flapping his wings to keep the babies cool since the night air was quite warm.

Right in front of me, and between the nest and me, was a large pile of what appeared to be chicken bones, feathers, and dog and cat bones. The pile stunk bad, and combined with all the feces around the nest, it made it REAL bad.

I watched the scene for about a half hour, and was getting ready to leave, when I heard a scream from somewhere high in the sky. The scream became much louder and seemed to be coming closer. All of a sudden I heard crashing in the trees, breaking branches, and a loud THUD. Then everything became completely quiet.

The Mothman had stopped his flapping, was listening, and appeared very nervous and scared. Since it was so quiet, I was afraid to move, so I remained well hidden. After an hour or so, I heard sounds of a heavy body crashing through the brush. There were broken branches and heavy footsteps. The thrashing sounds came from about where the thud was heard, and was heading toward the nest. The Mothman on the nest became even more nervous and quickly flew away.

Then a very large and scary-looking Mothman female crashed into the clearing. She was dragging a dead human body by one leg. Then she threw the body onto the chicken bone pile, and headed for the babies in the nest. The Mothman babies made clicking sounds and acted glad to see her. This Mothman female was a very scary sight. She must have weighed 300 to 400 pounds, with large claws and muscles. Her wings were kind of torn from the crash, but otherwise she seemed okay. I was very scared, and didn’t know what to do, since I couldn’t leave because she would hear me and might kill me.

After some time playing with the babies, she laid down on the ground and went to sleep. I could hear the loud snoring sounds that she made. I was just getting ready to leave again when the body on top of the bone pile started to groan and stir. He wasn’t dead, but appeared to have been knocked out. I think she thought he was dead, and was going to eat him after he had ripened up.

The appearance of this person was very odd. He was wearing a t-shirt, an afro wig, fishnet pantyhose, and high-heeled boots. His lips appeared to have been plumped with silicone. On the front of his t-shirt was printed “GAY PRIDE” and “SAN FRANCISCO.” On the back it said “JUAN’S COMFORT LOUNGE AND ESCORT SERVICE.” He got up and wobbled around in circles for a while, and then staggered away down the hill. After he left, and since the female Mothman was still snoring away, I figured now was the time to get away.

I then crawled back down the mountain to the railroad tracks. I was heading back to my car in the parking lot, when I saw the dad Mothman perched up on a 30 foot high railroad signal tower. Just then he released a large bowel movement which fell onto the tracks. The whole performance was accompanied by loud gas explosions and grunts. The smell was pretty bad.

Then he flew away across the river, and climbed up in the sky toward the moon. This is the last time that I saw him.

Then I ran down the tracks to my car, locked all the doors, and drove away fast.

NOTICE:

MOST OF THE PERSONAL SIGHTINGS AND MOTHMAN DESCRIPTIONS PLACED ON THE INTERNET ARE COMPLETELY BOGUS.

I HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN THESE CREATURES, AND OBSERVED THEIR ACTIONS CLOSE-UP.  MOTHMAN DOES NOT  LOOK LIKE THE HALF ASSED SKETCHES THAT CLAIM TO BE FROM ACTUAL SIGHTINGS.

SEE MY DRAWINGS AT THE END OF THIS BLOG FOR A TRUE AND VERY ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THIS UNIQUE AND RARE CREATURE.

RB

P.S.  YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE DAD AND MOM MOTHMAN HAVE A DIFFERENT SKIN COLOR AND PHYSICAL APPEARANCE.  THIS MAY MEAN THAT THEY ARE OF DIFFERENT RACES, AND HAVE INTEGRATED THEMSELVES.

EPILOGUE:

It was about a week after he escaped from the female MOTHMAN, that the man with the afro wig was found floating in Lake Goodview, near Winona, Minnesota.  The cause of death by autopsy was found to be "massive trauma to the lower bowel with collateral damage to adjacent organs and other internal structures."  It is significant to note that two days before he was found, he was seen partying with a gang of Outlaw bikers at a local tavern.  However, nothing useful came from the investigation of this report.  An ID card found on him gave the name "Lakeesha Lovetoy" and an address in San Francisco.  Police in San Francisco said that he had recently been abducted from a beachfront cabana.  A large moth-like creature had seized him and flown away.  This happened at night.

Further investigation found that he had changed his original name:  "Lars Lutherson"  to "Lakisha Lovetoy" about one year earlier.  Lars Lutherson was the twenty-second child of Ole Lena Lutherson of Nowhere, North Dakota.  He was about 46 years old at the time of his demise.  Nowhere, North Dakota is a very small unincorporated spot of three houses, a bar, a gas station, and a church.  Total population of seven people, two dogs, and fifteen cats, more or less.  His parents still lived on a large farm about two miles out of town.  They mainly raised buckwheat and a rutabaga crop.  Oh yes, I forgot to mention that he had two older brothers, both names Lars.  Apparently the parents had run out of new names by this time.

Everything in this account of my Mothman experience is true.

  1. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 OLD MOTHMAN SIGTINGS AT TREMPEALEAU MOUNTAIN. I saw the mothman account on your blog a few days ago, and I want to tell you about a real unusual thing that I saw 20 or 30 years ago. I was fishing for catfish in the swamp on the back side of the mountain about 11:o clock at night. No wind clear sky and bright moonlight. I saw 3 large strange birds that were fighting with each other high above me in the sky. I looked up because they were screaming at each other. feathers came drifting down. this lasted for about 5 minutes, then 2 of them flew away. The one that was left sailed right over to the top of the mountain. Then it came back and looked me over and flew back again. I got a real good look at it looked a lot like the mom mothman in your sketch. I fish a lot around that area, and never saw it again. I reported the sighting to the county sherrif, but he didnt take it very sereously. He suggested that I join tue local bird watchers club, and laffed me off.

  2. Hello, Ed. A lot of people think that I made up all this stuff, but it is very much true. Im glad that someone else could sort of back me up on this. I went back to the place where the nest was last week, the clearing is still there, but is overgrown with brush and weeds. I found where the bone pile was and found a metal nameplate off of a dog collar. The dogs name was "Snuffy". Im going back with a metal detector soon. I didnt find any thig else. RB

  3. Hi-This is about those strange sightings around the tremploue mountain area. I saw your recent blog account and would like to add my 2 cents worth. First off, I used to work for the US upper mississipi wildlife refuge next to the mountain as a laborer. About 25 years ago, I was doing some work on the flood dike in early spring, and was attact by a strange flying thing that was something like the mothman drawing that you made. the thing tried to grab me, but I hit it with my shovel the claws gave me some bad cuts and I still have scars. the doctor that fixed me up thought I was in a fight, or a bear did it. In those days I did a lot of drinking, and it was hard to convince anyone that I was telling the truth, but I was. Donald Schafer

  4. Dear blog readers- I am a retired ww2 naval intelligence officer with some information concerning the origin of the mothman sightings here in the U.S. These so called mothman creatures are really indigenous wildlife from the jungles of Celebes island in Indonesia. In the early years of ww2, the Japanese captured and trained these vicious creatures to carry out secret bombing missions. Their targets were the Panama canal and west coast military installations. the creatures were released from submarines with time bombs strapped onto them. We have records that account for at least 30 missions that were attempted. All failed. Many were shot down by anti aircraft fire. Some escaped into the wild, and probably migrated north to the U.S.A. 5. Hello, Mothman followers- I have recently talked with a lady who lived near trempeleau mountain. She said that after hearing about my mothman experience, she remembers that many people in the area lost dogs & cats about 30 years ago. She herself lost her little dog(Biffy). She let little Biffy out to do his business before going to bed. A large creature resembling my sketch of the dad mothman grabbed it and flew away toward the mountain. Little Biffy was yelping and yipping something terrible. Thats the last she ever saw of the poor thing. RB

  6. Is it possible that the Mothman and the Cheubicabra are one and the same? Almost all of the Mothman sightings occur in the spring and summer months in northern regions. and the Cheubicabras are seen in the south in winter time. Maybe they nest in the north and molt in winter down south. Think about it. This would explain a lot. Cheubicabras are almost bare of fur or feathers, but are just as vicious as the Mothmans are. RB

  7. I recently talked to a man in the barber shop who had what seems to be a an actual mothman sighting. This person lives right across the Mississippi river from Trempealeau Mtn. Wis. The sighting happend at dusk on June 24, 2012. what he at first thought was an eagle, swooped down out of the sky and grabbed a deer fawn standing on his lawn and carried it over to the top of the mountain across the river. He said that the "eagle" seemed very large, much larger than a normal eagle. I asked him to google "mothman contact trempealeau mtn" and look at my sketch of the mom and dad mothmen and compare it to what he saw. A few days later he called me and said it was a mom mothman that he saw. He has been watching, but has not seen anything more. RB

  9. Hello; This is in reply to the recent comment by nunoxx ; These are real creatures. We just had another sighting this summer. The new incident took place near Nelson, Wis. A group of bird watchers came upon a mothman nest in the tiffany swamp. Two fledgelings and parents. They watched them with binoculars for over 2 hours. I interviewed several of the witnesses, and showed them my sketches of both mom & dad . They both agreed that my drawings of the mothman matched their sighting closely. Check the Wabasha Mn. news for between Aug. 6 to 10 2013. RB

  15. RB. I am an avid hiker/explorer and UW-L student. I hiked Trempealeau Mt. not too long ago at the advice of my boss (Before I knew anything about the Mothmen). It was a great hike and after reading this blog I absolutely have too go back. Would love to go exploring for the bone pile. Is that the area labeled "crash site" on your map?

    1. Hello Wynn Duffy the bone pile was located near the mothman nest as shown on the map. The nest is marked on the map, but is a little hard to see. I was up there a few years ago, and even I couldn't exactly tell where it is. Look for metal pieces off dog collars such as buckles, name tags, etc. the rr signal tower is gone. It was moved farther up stream. RB

  18. Could you give me some of that shit you're tripping on? The names and places you came up with read like they were written by a sixth-grader, and the drawings look like something out of the Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. underground comics from the '70s.
